New wave and synth pop legend Thomas Dolby was at the peak of his powers when he released this second studio album of his in 1984. It's the album that spawned one his biggest singles, 'Hyperactive!', which features some gnarly slap bass and funk guitar. You can imagine this tune being a fit for a scene in Rik Mayall's classic comedy The Young Ones since it's highly evocative of Britain in the mid-80s. Whilst 'Hyperactive!' reached number 17 in the UK charts, 'I Scare Myself' didn't do quite as well at number 46. It's unsurprising given it's slightly more left-field in nature but still it's indicative of the top-tier experimentation that his band were able to concoct, with elements of jazz fusing with pop to create idiosyncratic splendour.
